Players competing in the inaugural Dominion Peace Cup will have a final opportunity today to impress foreign scouts as the tournament’s scouting programme concludes at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. Five matches are scheduled, with Athletic SC 2022 facing Dominion Excellence, Coal City taking on FC Bethel, and SCL Nigeria meeting Goal Getters. Adada Warriors recorded the biggest result on Monday with a 2–0 victory over Dominion Excellence, while four goals were scored in the five matches played that day.
The tournament, organised by Dominion Football Club, has attracted scouts and agents linked to European clubs who are monitoring the players for possible opportunities abroad. Organiser Benjamin James said teams were invited from different parts of Nigeria and other countries, including Ghana, while about six scouts are expected to assess the players. He explained that the selection would depend on the quality of the players rather than a fixed number, with scouts particularly interested in positions their clubs need.
Dominion FC proprietor, Mrs. Ogechi Agana, said the competition was created to provide young people with equal opportunities and keep them productively engaged. She described football as an international game capable of exposing young talents to opportunities beyond Nigeria. According to her, the organisers hope the Peace Cup will help produce one or two players who can progress to the international stage.
